1. Solve the following equations:
where x -1 and y 1
2. 4 men and 4 boys can do a piece of work in 3 days, while 2 men and 5 boys can
finish it in 4 days. How long would it take 1 boy and 1 man to do it?
3. A train covered a certain distance at a uniform speed. If the train had been 6 km/hr
faster, it would have taken 4 hours less than the scheduled time. If the train was
slower by 6 km/hr, it would have taken 6 hours more than the scheduled time. Find
the length of the journey.
4. Points A and B are 70 km apart on a highway. A car starts from A and another car
starts from B simultaneously. If they travel in the same direction, they meet in 7
hours but if they travel towards each other, they meet in one hour. Find the speed of
the two cars.
5. Solve
Answers:
1) x = 4 and y = 5. \
2) one boy takes 36 days and one man takes 18 days
3) 24 hrs
4) The speed of the car which starts from point A is 40 km/hr and the car which
starts from B is 30 km/hr
5) x = 2, y = 1.
