Subtopic-Type of Motion
Types of motion:-
• Translational motion
o Rectilinear motion
o Curvilinear motion
• Circular motion
• Rotational motion
• Oscillatory and Vibratory motion
• Periodic motion and Non-periodic motion
• Random motion
Translational Motion
Translational motion:-The motion in which the body or the object moves as a whole
and all parts of the body move in the same direction at the same time and also
covers the same distance , then it is called translational motion.E.g. - The car moving
on a road.
Types of translational motion are
• Rectilinear motion.
• Curvilinear motion.
• Rectilinear motion: When an object shows translational motion on a straight
path then it is called Rectilinear motion.
E.g.:-A child going on a slide, an apple falling from a tree etc.
• Curvilinear motion: When an object shows translational motion on a curved
path then it is called Curvilinear motion.
• E.g.:-A train moving on a curved path, A moving snake.
Circular motion:-
When an object moves along a circular path, it is said to be in circular motion. E.g. -
a car moving in a circular path, tip of the blade of the fan.
Rotational motion:
The motion in which an object rotates about an axis is known as rotational motion.
Eg.:- Motion of a spinning top, rotation of earth around its own axis, motion of a
bicycle wheel, a giant wheel, merry go round , motion of blades of a fan .
Oscillatory motion
The repeated to and fro or back and forth motion of an object along the same path
about the mean position over a regular interval of time is called as oscillatory motion.
E.g. - Motion of a swing, motion of cradle, Pendulum.
One complete cycle from one extreme to the other extreme and back to initial point is
called one oscillation.
