1. How does a substance get resource value? Explain with examples.
Ans:-
i) When a substance has the capacity to be used by man, it has utility. Utility adds
value to an object and it becomes a resource.
ii) A substance can change to utility or product through technology. So technology is
an important factor to get resource value to the substances.
iii) Technology develops over due course of time. So time is also an important factor
to give resource value to a substance. Example: Iron ore in stone age was not a
resource but now a valuable resource.
2. Think of reasons to substantiate the fact of unequal distribution of natural resources on the
earth surface.
Ans: The distribution of natural resources depends upon number of physical factors like
terrain, climate and altitude. These factors differ so much over the earth. So distribution of
resources is unequal.
3. Considering the following statements chose the correct option.
i. Time and technology can change substances in to resources
ii. Invention of fire has developed the transport and communication.
iii. Water seems to be an unlimited renewable resource.

4. Why human resources are the greatest resource for a country? Give three points.
Ans: Human resources are the greatest resource for a country because of the following r
reasons:
a) People can make the best use of nature to create more resources through their
knowledge, skill and technology.
b) It is through the human effort the resources are converted to more valuable
products.
c) Again, those products are transformed to wealth through various human activities
and influence the country’s economic development.
So human beings are the greatest resource for a country.

5. As human beings how can we ensure sustainable development? Or How can we ensure the
future security of the planet earth and its people and the life support system that nature
provides us?
Ans. i) Ensuring that all uses of renewable resources are sustainable.
ii) The diversity of life on the earth is conserved.
iii) The damage of natural environmental system is minimized.
6. Give few ways by which you can conserve/ save energy at home.
Ans. Some ways through which we can conserve energy at home are as follows:
