Singulier pluriel exemple

Masculin Tout tous Tout le livre ; tous les garçons

Feminin Toute toutes Tout la classe ; toutes les
femmes

The adjectiives tout agrees with the noun it qualifies. Tout precedes the definite

articles, possessive or demonstrative adjectives.

Ex.

a) Tous les garçons et touts les filles.

b) Tous mes amis et toutes mes cousines.
c) Tous ces cahiers et toutes ces cartes.

(Note :Tout is also used in expressions like tout le monde – everyone, everybody, tout le
temps – all the time .

Les adjectives

French adjectives change to agree in gender and number with the nouns that
they modify.

1. Most French adjectives add ‘e’, there is no difference between the
masculine and feminine forms.
Eg. vert -> verte
2. When the masculine singulier adjective ends with ‘e’, there is no
difference between the masculine and feminine forms.
Eg. rouge -> rouge

3. When the adjectives ends in ‘s’ or ‘x’, there is no difference between the
masculine singulier and plural forms.
Eg. gris -> gris
