 Sub-topic-2- How Is Time Measured in History?

                       Important Terms:

 Auspicious: Favourable or bringing luck; for instance, 'an
                    auspicious beginning.

 Century: A century is a period of 100 years. We count centuries in
history every 100 years starting from 1 CE.

 Era-means to mark the time through Important events, like the birth
of a famous person or the beginning of a ruler's rule

 Decades- which are periods of ten years.

In history time is measured through timeline, era and with the help of

                   Periodisation.

Calendar is the key element to find out about days, dates and year as
well. The Gregorian calendar is the most widely used around the
world today. It is commonly used for civil purposes, while other
calendars, such as the Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, and Chinese
calendars, are often used for religious festivals and special

                   occasions.

In the West, the conventional year for Jesus Christ has been taken as
the starting point for Gregorian calendar.

 Years are counted forward from this point and used to be marked
with ‘AD’ that refers to the years after Jesus’ birth. This is now

called the Common Era or CE across the world.
 Years are counted backward refers to BCE or before common ERA
that refers to the years before Jesus’ birth.

 A timeline is a helpful tool that organizes important events in
chronological order, making it easier to see how they are
                       connected over time.
 They allow us to compare events easily. For instance, even
without knowing the exact dates, you can tell that Buddha was

born before Jesus by their positions on the timeline.
