Sub topic 2- (Buddhism)
1- Other schools of thought evolved around the same time the Upanishads were
being created.
2- These schools of thought did not accept the authority of the Vedas.
3- About two and half millenniums ago, Prince Siddhartha was born in Lumbini.
4- He came to be known as the Buddha after attaining enlightenment.
5- Buddha taught what he realized after becoming the enlightened one.
6- He preached about ahimsa (non-violence or non-injuring).
7- He also taught about maintaining a sincere inner discipline.
8- He founded the “sangha”, a community of monks and nuns who followed and
spread his teachings and ideas far and wide.
9- His influence on India, and indeed the whole of Asia, was enormous; it is still
perceptible today as Buddhism is considered to be one of the most followed
religions of the world.
