LN – DOES WATER CONDUCT ELECTRICITY
Learning Objective: -Students will explore the concept of electrical conductivity in
different materials, including water.
Distilled Water: Water purified through distillation
Pure water: Water with minimal impurities
Salt water: Water containing dissolved salts
The water we use every day is not pure, so it can conduct electricity and can be very
dangerous when near electrical appliances.
Examples:
Saltwater – conducts electricity well.
Rainwater – conducts electricity because it has dissolved gases and dust.
Distilled water – does not conduct electricity well.
Safety Tip
Never touch electrical appliances with wet hands or near water. It can cause electric
shock!
Conclusion
Water can conduct electricity if it contains impurities like salts or minerals. So, we must
always be careful when using electricity near water.
Learning Outcome: - Students will understand that water can conduct electricity due to
the presence of dissolved ions.
