LN – Estimating and measuring perimeter
Learning Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
Understand the concept of perimeter as the distance around a shape.
Estimate the perimeter of objects and shapes
using non-standard and standard units.
Accurately measure and calculate the perimeter
of simple 2D shapes like squares and rectangles.
Use appropriate tools such as rulers, meter sticks,
or measuring tapes.
Perimeter - The perimeter of a shape is calculated by
adding up the length of all the sides or by measuring the
outer boundary of a shape or an object.
Perimeter = 12cm + 12cm + 12cm + 12cm =48cm
Perimeter of a Rectangle
Perimeter = 10m + 5m + 10m + 5m
Perimeter = length + length + width + width
= 30m
Learning outcome: Students are able to:
Understand the concept of perimeter as the distance around a shape.
Estimate the perimeter of objects and shapes using non-standard and
standard units.
Accurately measure and calculate the perimeter of simple 2D shapes like
squares and rectangles.
Use appropriate tools such as rulers, meter sticks, or measuring tapes.
