LN- DIARY DOODLES
Lesson Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and explain the differences in
language style between a personal diary entry and a newspaper report.
Introduction (5 minutes):
• Begin by asking: “Do you know what a diary is? Have you ever seen a newspaper?”
• Show them a short diary entry and a simple newspaper article (age-appropriate).
• Highlight the tone and style used in each.
Main Teaching:
1. Diary Entry Features:
• Written in the first person ("I", "my").
• Expresses personal feelings, thoughts, and experiences.
• Informal and friendly language.
• Includes dates and may use emotional words.
2. Newspaper Report Features:
• Written in the third person.
• Formal and factual.
• Answers: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?
• Does not show personal emotions or opinions.
Small Activity:
Activity: "Sort the Sentences" Game
• Give students a mix of short sentences (e.g., “I was so happy today!”, “The school
held a sports day yesterday.”).
• In pairs, they sort each sentence into two columns: Diary or Newspaper.
• Discuss answers as a class.
