Topic: SKIM AND SCAN
Objective
Students will understand the difference between Skim Read and Scan Read techniques
and be able to use them appropriately for different reading purposes.
Introduction

Skim Read is when you quickly go through a text to get the general idea or overview
without focusing on every word.
Scan Read involves searching a text for specific information, such as a name, date, or
keyword, without reading everything in detail.
Examples and Discussion
Skim Read:

sense or main idea of a text quickly without focusing on all the details.
o Example: Reading the headlines, subheadings, and first sentences of paragraphs
in an article to get an overview of the topic.
Sentence Example: "I skimmed through the article to see if it had
information about the upcoming event."
o Usage: Skim read when you are looking for a general understanding or
overview, such as when previewing a text or quickly checking for important
details.
Scan Read:
o Definition: Scanning is a technique where you search a text for a specific piece of
information, such as a name, number, date, or word, without reading the entire
text.
