LN – Place Value and Face value
Learning objective: Students will be able to read, write and represent
numbers as wellas identifytheplacevalueandfacevalue ofadigitinanumber.
PlaceValue: The value of where a digit is in the number.
Example: 1 In 436, 3 is in the tens' place, so its place value
is 3 tens or 30.
Example:2 In 895, 8 is in the ‘hundreds' place. So, its
place value is 8 hundredsor800.
Face Value: The face value of the digit in a number is the digit
itself. It is theactual number. It does not depend on any position
or places. It remains thesame.
Example: 1 In253,the face value
5is5.
