What is a Story Problem?

A story problem (or word problem) is a math question written in the form of
a real-life story.
You have to understand the story, decide whether to add or subtract, and
then solve it.

We use addition when we:

 Find the total
 Know how many in all
 Combine groups or items

Real-life Examples:

A stadium sold 458 tickets in the morning and 239 tickets in the afternoon.
How many tickets were sold in total?
Solution:

Number of tickets sold in the morning = 458 458
Number of tickets sold in the afternoon = 239 + 239
Total number of tickets sold = 458 + 239 ──────
So, 697 tickets were sold in total. 697
