LEARNING OBJECTIVE- To know some of the important dates of our
country.

• Some important national dates are -

• Independence Day-15 of August is celebrated as Independence Day.
Flag hoisting, parade, fireworks, singing patriotic songs and the
National Anthem Jana Gana Mana speech by Prime Minister of India
and President of India are observed on this day.

• Republic Day-26 of January is celebrated as the Republic Day. It was
on this day the Constitution of India came into effect.

• Gandhi Jayanti-2 of birthday is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti to
mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
• Children’s Day-November 14 is celebrated as Children’s Day as a
tribute to India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, fondly
known as Chacha Nehru who was born on that day. This day is
celebrated to create awareness of the rights, care and education of
the children.
• Teacher’s Day-In India 5 of September is celebrated as Teacher’s

Day as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by the teachers to

the society. 5 September is the birthday of the great teacher, the
first Vice President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
