Lesson Notes
Ecosystem: It comprises of biotic components such as plants, animals, abiotic
components like soil, water, air and climatic factors like temperature, humidity and wind.
Each organism is important to maintain balance of nature .Examples- Forest, Sea, and
Pond etc.
Red data book: It is a source book which keeps record of endangered species of our
country. It is separate for plants and animals. It provide information of endangered
species of plants and animals and help us to conserve and protect them from extinction.
Migration: The temporary and seasonal journey performed by complete population of a
species for better climatic condition, breeding as well as in search of food is called
migration. Birds like Siberian cranes comes to Odisha because their climate becomes
inhospitable and harsh for getting food and breeding purposes. The birds perform
migration every year in a specific season and go back to their mother land are called
migratory birds
Recycling of paper: Paper is manufactured from pulp of plants. Seventeen fully grown
trees are used to make a ton of paper .Paper can be recycled from five to seven times
.By saving ,reusing and recycling paper ,a lot of trees can be saved as well as
deforestation can be reduced ..Recycling of requires energy and use of chemicals, so
saving and reusing of paper is better than recycling of it.
Reforestation: Planting same varieties of saplings in deforested areas which were
existing earlier naturally in that area is called reforestation .It is important because the
planted sapling can grow faster and better with minimum care as the climate as well as
soil is suitable for them. If the deforested area is left undisturbed for some years,
reforestation will take pace naturally without human efforts.
