SUB-TOPIC- Introduction, Tropical evergreen forest, Tropical Deciduous forests
NOTES
Natural vegetation-It refers to a plant community which has grown naturally without
human aid and has been left undisturbed by humans for a long time. Cultivated crops
and fruits, orchards form part of vegetation but not natural vegetation.
Tropical evergreen forest- Tropical evergreen forests are dense, multi-layered, and
harbour many types of plants and animals. These forests are found in the areas receiving
heavy rainfall (more than 200 cm annual rainfall). They are very dense. Even the
sunlight does not reach the ground. Trees of tropical evergreen forest
are ebony,mahogany, rosewood, rubber and cinchona.
Tropical Deciduous forests- Tropical Deciduous Forests are home to trees with broad
leaves which often are shed in one season of the year. They are also called the
monsoon forests and spread over the region receiving rainfall between 200 cm and 70
cm. Teak is the most dominant species of this forest. Bamboos, sal,
shisham, sandalwood, khair, kusum, arjun, mulberry are other commercially important
species.
