Sub Topic 3 - THE SHIRTS IN THE UNITED STATES, MARKET AND EQUALITY

THE SHIRTS IN THE  The shirts sent from garments export centres are
UNITED STATES sold in dollars in the US.
 The garment exporter sold the shirt at Rs 300 per
piece, the cloth and other raw materials cost him
                                                    Rs 100 per shirt.
 In this way a chain of businesses get linked right
from the farmer to the buyer in a store.
 Thus, it also links the producers of cotton to the
                                                    buyers at the supermarket.
 Buying and selling takes place at every step in the
                                                    chain.
 But there were people who made profits in the
market and there were some who did not gain as
much from this buying and selling.
MARKET AND EQUALITY  Profit – the amount that is left or gained from
earnings after deducting all the costs.
 Foreign businessmen make huge profits in the
                                                    market.
 Garment manufacturers only make moderate
                                                    profits.
 Weavers at Erode market and small farmers don’t
                                                    make a huge profit.
 Even the merchants and traders are not getting
                                                    fair price.
 Thus, not everyone gains equally in the market.
 Poor people have no option but to depend on the
                                                    rich.
 Laws should be made to protect the interest of
                                                    weavers and small farmers.
