COMPONENTS OF AN ELECTRIC CIRCUIT
The various components that make up an electric circuit are explained below.
CELL
A cell is a source of electric current and consists of a positive and a negative terminal.
Battery:Two or more cells connected together are known as Battery.
Combination of cells can be of two types:
i. Series Connection
ii. Parallel Connection
Series Connection:
In series connection of cells, alternate terminals are connected, that is positive terminal of a cell
is connected to a negative terminal of another cell.
Series connection of cells gives high voltage. It is used in devices where high Voltage is
required.
Symbolic representation of series connection of cells:
Parallel Connection:
In parallel connection of cells, similar terminals are connected that is positive terminal of one cell
is connected to the positive terminal of other cell and negative terminal of one cell is connected
to the negative terminal of other cell.
Parallel connection of cell provides high current at same voltage which enables multiple
devices to work smoothly.
