CHAPTER-9: Data Handling
Lesson Notes-1
SUBTOPIC: Introduction of Data Handling
Data: Data is a collection of numerical information gives information.
Raw Data: The original form of data or the data which is not organized properly are
called the raw data.
Primary Data: Primary data is information collected through original or first-hand
research. For example, surveys and focus group discussions.
Secondary Data: Secondary data is information which has been collected in the
past by someone else. For example, researching the internet, newspaper articles
and company reports.
Recording Data: Recording of data depends upon the requirement of the data.
Everybody has different ways to record data.
Organization of Data: Raw data is difficult to read, so we have to organize it.
Data can be organized in a tabular form.
Data is represented in a tabular form using frequency distribution and the tally
marks.
Frequency: It tells the number of times the particular observation happened.
Tally marks: These are used to show the frequency of the data.
Tally marks are represented as:
We can see here;
One is expressed by ‘|’ tally marks.
Two one is represented by ‘| |’ tally marks.
