CHAPTER-8: Decimals
LESSON NOTES-1
SUBTOPIC: Conversion of fraction to decimals and vice versa,
Decimal on a number line
LESSON NOTES:
Converting decimal into Fraction:
Conversion is done by seeing the place value of numbers.
In conversion to fraction, the decimal can be written simply as a number with
denominator having as many zeroes as the number of digits after the decimal
point.
Ex- Converting 0.05 into fraction
Here 0 is at Ones place, 0 is at tenths place and 5 is at hundredths
place.
There are two digits after the decimal point. So the conversion can also
be done as writing the number and dividing by 100.
So the fraction form will be .
Similarly if one digit will be there after the decimal then will divide by
10, if three digits then 1000 etc.
Converting fraction into Decimal: In case of converting fraction to decimal
the fraction can be converted into decimal by division method.
The denominator can be converted into multiples of 10 can be converted to
decimal according to the number of zeros.
Expanded Form of Decimals: Writing decimals in expanded form simply
means writing each number according to its place value.
This is done by multiplying each digit by its place value and adding them
together.
