Subtopic- Conductors and Insulators
Conductors:
A substance that allows electric current to pass through it is called a conductor or
good conductor of electricity.
E.g. Metal such as copper, iron and aluminum are good conductor.
That is why the filament of a bulb is also made of metal.
Insulator:
A substance that does not allow electric current to pass through it, is called a bad
conductor or an insulator.
E.g. Non-metals such as nylon, glass and cotton are bad conductor.
Note:
Conductors and insulators have their own advantages.
The wires used for carrying electricity are made of conducting materials. This
allows electricity to be transferred from one place to another.
Plastic is an insulator which prevents us from getting electric shock.
The bodies of electrical switches, sockets, plugs and handles of an electric
appliances are all made of insulating materials.
