                                   Chapter 8 – METRIC MEASUREMENTS

Sub-topic 7 : WORD PROBLEMS OF METRIC MEASUREMENTS:

Example:1- The height of building X is 6314 cm and that of building Y is
229 cm less. What is the height of building Y?

               Solution:

               The height of building X = 6314 cm = 63.14 m

The height of building Y is 229 cm less than building X.

               Therefore, the height of building Y = 63.14 m - 2.29 m

               Hence, the height of building Y = 60.85 m

The total length of 9 ropes of equal length is 19 m 20 cm. What is the
               length of each rope?

               Total length of 6 ropes = 19 m 20 cm

               Length of each rope = 19 m 20 cm ÷ 6

               Ans: 3 m 20 cm

               Example:2- The length of a rope is 80 m. If a piece of 35 m 40 cm length
is cut, what length of the rope is left?

               Solution:

Total length of the rope = 80 m 00 cm

               Piece cut from the rope = - 35 m 40 cm
