                                              Chapter- 8 [Biomechanics & Sports]

Meaning of Biomechanics: Sports Biomechanics is the study of forces and stresses of human
movement & their effect on athletics performance and safety.

               Importance of Biomechanics in sports

1- Assist in improving Technique: Dick Fosburby discovered the new technique of high jump with the
               help of biomechanics.

                                                    TYPES OF MOVEMENTS

Glidding Movement: is the simplest kind of motion that can take place in a joint. It is very common to
all movable joints but in most of the articulations of the carpus and tarsus.

Angular Movement: occurs only between the long bones, it may take place forward, backward,
               flexion, extension ,adduction and abduction.

Flexion: bending the lower limb at the knee

Extension: straightening the lower limbs at the knee

Abduction: lifting the upper limb horizontally to form a right angle with the side of the body

Adduction: returning the upper limb from the horizontal position to the side of the body

Circumduction: moving a finger in a circular motion without moving the hand rotation
