                    Objective:

                    About the Poet
                    William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) was an Irish nationalist. He was educated in London and
                    Dublin, and was interested in folklore and mythology. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature
                    in 1923.

                    Introduction to the lesson
                    W.B. Yeats has tried to touch a very important topic through his poem. He says that it is
                    almost impossible to find a person in your life who loves you truly. By saying truly, he means
                    the one who loves you for your qualities and not your looks. He says that only God loves us
                    for what we are from inside.

                    New words
                       1.  Despair : hopelessness.
                          The man looks to be despairing on some personal issues.
                       2.  Rampart : the high, wide walls around a castle or fort.
                          This is the rampart of a castle.
                       3.  Declare : Announce
                          President Obama is declaring his decree from this dais.
                       4.  Honey coloured : Golden colour.
                          This object appears to be of honey coloured.
                       5.  Hair-Dye : Hair coloured.
                          The lady has done her hair dye in multi-colour.

                    Key points
                         This poem is a conversation between a young man and a young woman.
                         They were arguing with each other regarding the concept of real beauty.
                         The poem is written by A. Gregory is about a young woman who has lustrous golden
                          hair and no man can resist her charming and bewitching beauty. What annoys the
                          lady is that young men fall in love with her appearance and not for the person that
                          she is.

                    Literary Devices:
                         Metaphor: honey-coloured Ramparts at your ear (Anne’s hair is compared to the
                          ramparts of a fort)
